We concur.  <\/p>\n<p>During the Soviet period we stood on the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Babi_Yar\">ridge line outside Kiev at Babi Yar<\/a>.  60 years later the Western mind has yet to grasp fully the magnitude of it all. Surrounded and trapped,<br \/>\nI&#8217;m persecuted, spat on, slandered, and<br \/>\nThe dainty dollies in their Brussels frills<br \/>\nSqueal, as they stab umbrellas at my face.<\/p>\n<p>I see myself a boy in Belostok *2*<br \/>\nBlood spills, and runs upon the floors,<br \/>\nThe chiefs of bar and pub rage unimpeded<br \/>\nAnd reek of vodka and of onion, half and half.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m thrown back by a boot, I have no strength left,<br \/>\nIn vain I beg the rabble of pogrom,<br \/>\nTo jeers of &#8220;Kill the Jews, and save our Russia!&#8221;<br \/>\nMy mother&#8217;s being beaten by a clerk.<\/p>\n<p>O, Russia of my heart, I know that you<br \/>\nAre international, by inner nature.<br \/>\nBut often those whose hands are steeped in filth<br \/>\nAbused your purest name, in name of hatred.<\/p>\n<p>I know the kindness of my native land.<br \/>\nHow vile, that without the slightest quiver<br \/>\nThe antisemites have proclaimed themselves<br \/>\nThe &#8220;Union of the Russian People!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It seems to me that I am Anna Frank,<br \/>\nTransparent, as the thinnest branch in April,<br \/>\nAnd I&#8217;m in love, and have no need of phrases,<br \/>\nBut only that we gaze into each other&#8217;s eyes.<br \/>\nHow little one can see, or even sense!<br \/>\nLeaves are forbidden, so is sky,<br \/>\nBut much is still allowed &#8211; very gently<br \/>\nIn darkened rooms each other to embrace.<\/p>\n<p>-&#8220;They come!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>-&#8220;No, fear not &#8211; those are sounds<br \/>\nOf spring itself.
