What was also funny was the surprise and shock that those filmmakers expressed that he had a sense of humor and intelligence – and that could be combined, in a multi-dimensional way, with less admirable attributes. This is despite the fact that he was very well known and known for being a certain kind of character. But they seemed to maintain themselves in a grad school like shell with some cartoon attitudes. Yes – when he spoke of Richlieu, you could just imagine him hectoring/instructing an underlining (with a semi-deniable wink) about something being worse than a crime – a blunder. Even his semi-jocular pretense about him being a churchman
Citing Richelieu the most instructive. What’s a Thirty Years War if it is against the Hapsburgs or crushing some Huguenots among friends?
It is still pathetic that our Canadian neighbors need to cling to the idea that this trial for essentially petty theft was “the trial of the century”. Perhaps Canada is a vivid foretaste of the U.S. in a future and perhaps more deserved global role . . .
Doc – if you watch that clip – take note of Black at the book fair between 1:30 and 1-37 time into it.
Black goes thru four or five distinct emotional reactions within the six second frame – each one illuminating an aspect of his inner self that identifies with FDR.
Stop the press – You’ll now be able to get you dose of MoDo and Tom Friedman and David Brooks — The Times Select will be re-open to the masses. First there is the week, then the weekend, the weekender ….
As you are likely aware, Rush will denounce Dioxin as a product of FemiNazi propaganda and Gloria Steinheeeeeem.
What puzzles me is why the Left wants to convince Rush, Hannity or any of them that they are wrong. They simply must be overcome and marginalized. Who cares if any of them care. That damn GQ article about Rummy was nauseating.
Taibbi failed to credit Patraeus with his takedown of the Deputy Assistant Undersecretary of Lebanese Hezbollah Department 2800 and the copy editor of Department 2600 in-house journal.
Taibbi does make a good point about the lazy nature of the lying on the way in – Anon provoked a loud and humorous (we think) argument following the NY Gop convention when we mocked the whole Uday-woodchipper story to some Kool-aiders and they took offense and accused me of being “pro Uday.” Such was the malevolent infantilism in the air – stoked by those forces Taibbi describes.
Not sufe if Taibbi is right about Snow, Voinovic (sp?), or Rummy – Voinovich always seemed a bot wobbly to us and to others – also, not sure if Snow consiously lies. We think he groks the crap, then barfs it out. As far as Rummy is concerned, we don’t know what we don’t know…
Laney looked at the tweaked Hillman on his screen. “You haven’t told me what I’m looking for.”
“Anything that might be of interest to Slitscan. Which is to say, Laney, anything that might be of interest to Slitscan’s audience. Which is best visualized as a vicious, lazy, profoundly ignorant, perpetually hungry organism craving the warm god-flesh of the anointed. Personally I like to imagine something the size of a baby hippo, the color of a week-old boiled potato, that lives by itself, in the dark, in a double-wide on the outskirts of Topeka. It’s covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections.”

Bravo – well done. Though it seems some technical glitches on ourside meant three of the sections of the Grace ring did not get pictures illuminated on their sides.
A woman with a boa and a dream and a bad laugh has emerged from the hubbub of the internet triumphant. “The kids at Gawker are going to go crazy tomorrow,” predicted LA Observed last night. Well, yes. We are. Like, we might have to be put in protective custody. For Mediabistro, everyone’s favorite amalgamation of freelancer message boards and half-hearted blogs, which gets 50,000 unique visitors a month, has been acquired for $23 million by Jupitermedia. (That’s $38 for each person who came to their website last year!) We don’t know what to say except: Wow. Holy hell, wow. There’s something really wrong with the economy. I guess we have to say congratulations to Laurel. It seems like if we had any brains at all we would have done that ourselves.
Siftung couldn’t agree more, if we are not too appalled again that a frat twit like Carlson has his own TV show tonite, we may add her to the Ring of Grace . . .

What did GQ say about Rumsfeld? Rush et al are a symptoms – Liberals are supposed to be all about root causes.
