Also funny is the known but unvoiced contempt that Taibbi obviously has for Gergen. Instint takes over and Gergen immediatly conflates Taibbi with Obama and acts as if he is speaking for Obama when the actual text of the conversation is that Taibbi is opposing Obama’s approach.
But Gergen just cannot seperate the boxes in his own mind. Life has been too lucrative.
Basically in Gergen-land any dubious monies made by Rubin are totally irrelevant and his reputation is frozen in the 90s and any subsequent reevalution in light of the blow up is just showing disrespect. How dare Taibbi not be sensitive to Jamie’s hurt feelings. It is irrelevant if Obama did his bidding – what counts is that he hurt his feelings. Once.
Gergen: That sentiment is exactly what the business community objects to.
Taibbi: Fuck the business community!
Gergen: Fuck the business community? That’s what you said? That’s the very attitude the business community feels is coming from many Democrats in Washington, including some in the White House. There’s a good reason why they feel many Democrats are hostile — because they are.
Taibbi: It’s hard to see how this administration is hostile to business when the guy it turns to for economic advice is the same guy who pushed through a merger and then went right off and made $120 million from a decision that helped wreck the entire economy.

Gergen can seek solace over brie with Joe Klein and Jim Lehrer, all shaking their heads at Taibbi’s naive, uncultured rejection of bipartisanship. He is *untutored* they chuckle, but quietly among themselves because his Dad, after all, might still be useful to them at NBC. And he might say something to Brian. . .
When we saw that Smithsonian ant cross we actually thought it was a set up provocation prank designed tp get Donahue all riled up – We were actually surprised that it was real and all that.
Best way to get someone like Donahue riled up is to say something like: Moslems would never complain if Muhammad were teased in art, so why should Christian get special privileged.
But rehearsal is needed to pull of a good bs provocation
re Bill Donohue flatulence, Brent Bozell similarly got schooled on CNN. Imagine Tweety trading emails to Smercomish on this, bemoaning how ‘the old neighborhood’ would have known how to deal with such Leftist arty elitism.
Speaking of elitism, Huckabee’s journey man water carrier, Ed Rollins, musters all the apparatchik elitism he can dump on Sarah here:
I know you were only 2 when Ronald Reagan was elected by a landslide to the first of two terms as governor of California in 1966, but I would have hoped somewhere along the way through the five colleges you attended that you would have learned a little history. And I can tell you being governor of the most populous state is a lot tougher than being governor of one of the least populous ones.
Just turned on msnbc and nicole wallace spewing vacuities – Saw her on with Mika snearing about Palin the interloper the other day – Her lament about Palin is all class based and almost makes us sympathetic to that ridiculous demagogue.
Anyway here is a hilarious exchange btw Taibbi and Gergen – Gregen, fresh from Davos, is the first one to accuse others of snobbery: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/232460?RS_show_page=4
Glad to hear the family’s together; hope the TSA obliged and all went smoothly. On this end, all very low key and local. Keeping with family tradition, tomorrow will be likely Chinese to cleanse the palette.

Btw – This table shows our economic decline – note how the lions share of cables are with countrues that really are not part of the economic future.

Rollins knows (as of now) she will crush Huckabee like a Diet Splice can in Iowa and South Carolina.

My parents flew to DC yesterday, and it is nice to not have to travel on Thanksgiving. It’s also very nice to see my folks.
We’re not going to cook a damn thing. We’ve got reservations. Loving family bliss.
Happy holidays to all at the Stiftung.
[Holiday travel sub-optimal? Kvetch to Steve Jobs.]
