Oh, we know there’s dithering amongst the detail weeds about NATO-this, Article I-this, but it’s all petty squabbling. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, ‘Half assed is as half assed does.” So far it’s been tawdry caviling.
Instead, as another tableau of the absurd, we present to you the Music Industry (Atlantic, Sony, Warners, Virgin, etc.). Before a judge overseeing the Limeware filesharing lawsuit, plantiff music companies were asked to proffer their estimate of damages incurred by people trading Hanson, Hannah Montana and Fatboy Slim mp3s, etc.
The music industry’s claim? $75 trillion dollars. Yes, Dear Reader, more than the entire world’s economic output.

Btw – the total vacuity of cable news – absolutely nothing of substance about Brazil – Only how it affects Obama when he comes back. Nothing. Brazil doesn’t really exist in the cable mind.

Just turned on msnbc – nothing about Brazil – just weeks old footage B-roll of masked Japanese bowing. They don’t even tell you what city the Japanese are in.

Do federal judges have the power to reduce jury awards in copyright-infringement cases?
The Obama administration and the Recording Industry Association of America don’t think so.

Very true about Bachman and the media – If Bachman had a sense of humor she could make obscure reference to something happening in a small meeting in Brazil and watch the media send reporters to cover it.

Yeah, normally don’t use artwork from a referenced site but it was perfect.

@Comment The only way to get the media to pay sustained attention to anything is for Michelle Bachman to make an errant reference. The wall-to-wall jaw-jawing will last for weeks.
Cable producers are like 14 year old movie goers, entranced by explosions. Libya’s got em. When producers finally realized radiation was invisible and Gamera wasn’t going to show, well.

It’s a shame the music industry destroyed itself. Music execs share more responsibility for Christgau’s fallen ‘monoculture’ than technology itself. When RIAA sued a dead woman years ago it was all there to see. They got all the legislative B.S. and regulatory cover they needed and still failed to come up with a single business model. More judges should have thrown out their complaints and applied Rule 11 sanctions, with maybe a Holmes quote: Three generations of idiots is enough.

Interesting – because the industry is just trying to remind the world of it’s long links with organized crime. So these periodic shakedowns are as much about nostalgia as they are about seeking recompense.
Keep in mind 1/3 of states still put debtors in prison – Private companies like Sony claim vast control over people who buy their video games. etc
Were still feudal after all.

Utterly worthy of a TNG facepalm screen shot.
