Will some one please tell the Crown Prince to STFU about a statement made in Israel that did not implicate him *until* he opened his yap. If this is what the next four years will be like, we are inclined to shift our position to ANYONE BUT THAT FOOL.

re the Bush thing in Israel, personally we think it was tremendously overblown and we have never (to our recollection, please remind if wrong) been kind to the Warlord (deservedly so). Will someone stir the pot after the fact? Of course. This website also has never criticized the Peanut Farmer for his naval service or his work with Rickover — or for that matter, more than likely the best ex president we have had in living memory.
If people disagree about our skepticism re audacity, so be it. That is what comment forums are for. People are free to read or not read and move on.
Tweety (Chris M.) has always been a favorite target here. By all means, pile on. With gusto.
re Conrad Black, pretty sad suit. Not familiar with Cook County Civil Court rules. My guess and genuine hope is he gets the case dismissed and possibly sanctions actions against the attorneys (unlikely, but local civil courts, unlike federal courts, often require alot more details than mere allegations). It is likely extortion for a mere settlement. Even then, given the paltry sum claimed, it looks like the lawyer intends to settle for change (especially if as likely contingency).
It would be wonderful if Conrad hired Sidley Austin or some other huge local law firm and just buried this clown. If anyone hears more about this, please let us know.

Leo, Bush used the weaselly passive aggressive “some people say” formulation – He often did the same thing againt Kerry (stateside) – Everyone knew who he was talking about and his aides confirmed that to multiple media sources.
It was a disgusting performace – Bush was, in effect, mooning the Israeli public so to score cheap domestic political points – His entourage clapped and cheered , but it was their Last Hurrah. On this point, you should be glad because the crux of your blog is a criticism of their ideology and their program
When the storyline started to backfire, the WH had Gillespie put out a dishonest counter-narrative and they sent out via email false talking points to other Republicans saying it was Carter or Pelosi etc.
Dr Leo Strauss says
Do us the favor, Dear Reader, and explain how this is revisionism? Did the Warlord mention the Crown Prince in Israel? If so, I missed the video and will happily link to it.

Always the revisionist Leo. It’s who you are. Always making excuses for you failures.

Yeah – that’s the point – It’s relative. He’s running against a woman who opposition to war is suspect, as is her opposition to Iraq perm presence. Plus her relation to the Truth and her partially phony populism and pretend love for guns. Incidentally, Obama is probably a better shot that Ol’ McCain and if pictures of black guy with a gun didn’t do so poorly in focus groups, he’d have him busted on that. McCain’s a nice guy, but he really doesn’t understand that Bush put Iran in charge in Iraq already. Plus – he not only confused Hamaa recently, but Hezb in the past. We can’t afford another President playing into the dumb “they’re all the same” stupidity, even if his heart is in the right place. Oh btw – he caved on torture legislation , like wussy trying to show he’s tough. He knows better – but ambition blinded him.

Ed Gillespie tried to put out the word – after the story started blowing up all over Bush and McCain – that Dubya was really referring to President Carter, not Obama.
Granted Stsoz is an audacity skeptic, we don’ think many people fell for this very familiar style of White House girlish games with truth and rumors. It’s all very passive aggresive. So we were puzzled to see some people – esp a warlord critic – seem to fall for this revisionism. Did anyone else really think Bush was not talking about Obama? Even if was Carter – Bush has no moral authority to attack Carter. For all of his faults, Carter is a Hyperion to Bush’s Satyr. Bush could survive a day working on Carter’s farm without having someone bail him out. The idea of Bush working with nuclear reactors is beyond satire.

i’m utterly mystified by the local (stsoz2.0) hostility to the ‘crown prince’.
seems strange. he is clearly a cipher(in the sense that he is obviously intelligent and centered enough to be open to absorbing focused expertise, to make a composite of it, in the further sense that the executive project and responsibilities circa 21st century are necessarily an organizational endeavor(the knowledge base requirements alone are far too vast to be encompassed by a single individual, hence the leader necessarily becoming more the taoist-style enabler/musician of the hive… in this regard the bushCORPS paradigm/aesthetic circa 2000 with supposed hyper-competent sage/guru cheney orchestrating from a lagrange point over a fluid uber-cadre somewhat apt and correct in essential understanding of the requirements of the age); someone wrote that “[he’s] a trojan horse of logical thinking.”, or something to that effect. and clearly you can’t judge a broad-based socio-political wave (this is largely going to be about genX technocratics and west-coast neo-leftist/libertarian-hippies(ie the hyperintelligent berkeley set ie spawn of jobs/wozniak, open-source communities, and other viable fruits of the psychedelic/cybernetic mashup sparked in the 70’s and only now coming fruition) coming (back) into their own methinks) on it’s cover/candidate, the latter necessarily tuned to the contingencies of the present climate. given that, it’s hard to see why anyone here would stoop to parse these things so closely. but even should we choose to do so(& why not, on the occasion), most everything he says seems glaringly cogent, competent and all-around sensible, especially in relation to the norm of the day.
meanwhile, the kind of thing that doesn’t get much mention is the economic implications of losing leverage over the oil prior to re-tooling energy sector away from oil-dependence (30 years is too optimistic right?)… in light of this, though the public may seek withdrawal on moral grounds, others on financial and overstretch/logistical grounds, some element of power-positive agency in the area will absolutely have to be arranged, from the pov of the stewards of the long-term national interests and health. i think the crown prince probably gets this, as does the circle behind him, (which doesn’t seem to lack these days..) but will never and could never get any airplay in the doltish zeigeist of the day;.. though it must be said, americans have matured quite a bit since the earnest talk of wmd and such. ok, back to java.
btw you did see the chris mathews classic right? (“What did he do??!!!” “Kevin, WHAT DID HE DO?!!!! YOU DON’T KNOW DO YOU KEVIN???!!![…] “WHAT DID NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN DO?!!!” “WHAT DID HE DO??!” etc…) funny but more infotainment i didn’t need to see. i don’t have a tv for a reason. now it’s infected the nets.

Incidentally – it was Gee Dubs who had the glass jaw – as they tried to back out of their passive aggressive game via their spokeswoman – Her name escapes, but the one who didn’t know from the cuban missle crisis.
Dubya’s lack for respect for the Israeli public will be a growing stain as word speads why he said what he said and the reasons he said it. Does he care? No, but as time goes on and McCain learns that his genial warmongering is losing to Obama, it will begin to sink in.
We happen to think this will be a close campaign and McCain may win. We think he would have probably won – just barely – over HRC. But the fact that he may lose to Obama is an indication that the warlord’s clownish policies are finally being rebuked.
Btw – Bush asked the Saudis to “open the spigot” today. They told him to go to hell. That’s Dubya’s Power.

Sorry Doc – You missed the news on this one. Bush’s dip**** aides lost their discipline and told many reporters in Israel, at the time of the speech, that it was aimed at Obama.
Obama is correct to take advantage and turn the screws and tool on him.
In fact – Mitt Romney was caugh in a lie at the NRA when he told some reporters that he was surprised that Obama thought it was about him, while he had told others that he knew it was aimed at Obama.
This was a disgraceful moment for Bush – And Obama is wise politically to milk it for all its worth and make McCain pay a price.
